Background

Since its establishment in 1992, Islamic Relief Pakistan has played a vital role in addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by communities across the country. The office focuses on educational development, psychosocial support, and economic empowerment to uplift vulnerable families and children. Programs include educational sponsorships that provide access to quality schooling for disadvantaged children and youth.

Additionally, the office implements psychosocial activities to support children and youth affected by poverty, conflict, and natural disasters—fostering resilience and emotional well-being. Economic empowerment initiatives, such as skill development, vocational training, and microfinance opportunities, help marginalized communities move toward self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.

Main activities

Volunteers will have the opportunity to explore the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of Pakistan. Activities will include visits to key landmarks, historic sites, and areas of cultural significance in and around Islamabad, offering participants an authentic glimpse into the traditions, hospitality, and heritage of the region. From scenic views in the Margalla Hills to exploring local bazaars and heritage sites, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of Pakistan’s diverse cultural landscape.

Participants will connect with local communities by running an educational camp for orphans, providing psychosocial support, and engaging in community service projects, including rehabilitating schools and homes, and distributing essential supplies to help vulnerable groups in the area. This program offers a unique opportunity to gain firsthand understanding of Pakistan’s culture, history, and development challenges.

Volunteers will embark on a 10-day journey engaging with local communities in Pakistan. Activities include:

Packing and distributing food and hygiene kits to families in need

Running Educational Workshops for Youth

Providing psychosocial support programs

Participating in community service projects for local communities

Volunteers will also pack and distribute food items and hygiene boxes to refugee families and gain an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced by the refugee communities.

Furthermore, volunteers will have the opportunity to:

  1. Visit local Islamic Relief projects and interact with rights-holders to hear their stories.
  2. Participate in organized educational sightseeing activities, including visits to King Faisal Mosque, the National Museum, and other historical sites and landmarks.

Benefits of field study

The Inspire program aims to provide volunteers with a unique and eye-opening experience, where they immerse themselves in a completely different context than they are normally accustomed to. This program encompasses the “give and take” principle; it is an opportunity to give back to vulnerable communities overseas whilst learning and growing skills in an enriching environment.

After completing the program, letters of reference will be given out to participants upon request. Participants will also be encouraged to continue volunteering with Islamic Relief Canada following the trip to continue their humanitarian efforts.

Fundraising Process

All accepted applicants are required to raise a minimum of $3,500 CAD each. All the funds raised will go towards Islamic Relief projects in Pakistan. We will provide each volunteer with a fundraising session that includes tips on fundraising, engaging your network, etc. We will also set up an online fundraising page for each volunteer to raise funds for their project.

Donations will be allocated towards the Inspire program components and contribute to ongoing, long-term projects in the region. None of the donations will go towards the personal costs of the volunteers.

Accommodations & Costs

Islamic Relief Canada will cover your stay in Pakistan, including your accommodation, transportation within the country, food, and scheduled sightseeing activities. Please note that flights are NOT covered. Thus, the volunteer is responsible for purchasing their flights to and from Pakistan and mandatory health insurance.

Pre-Departure Training

Once accepted into the program, volunteers are required to complete a combination of mandatory virtual and online training sessions. There will be about 3-4 sessions in total, with an average duration of 2 hours each. The training will cover Fundraising, Team Building, Country Profile, Islamic Relief's History, Field Safety and Security, Activity Planning, Humanitarian Standards, and Passion Projects. The schedule will be released upon being accepted into the program. These training sessions are mandatory to attend.

Reflections from our changemakers

“There was a young girl by the name of Hifsa who was sensory challenged. Her mother said that she never smiled and she never engaged with anyone. During a game, I had her co-lead with me, and she was jumping, laughing, and just enjoying the moment. I later learned that her mother said that she was a different person, a happy and engaging child, after the camp. This showed me that our job as volunteers was accomplished: we had inspired her.”

Ayesha Bhutto • Inspire Turkiye

“Being able to speak with the local communities, especially as an overseas Pakistani myself, allowed me to connect more with my own culture and made me feel more at home and comfortable with my identity. I have learned so much about Pakistani culture by seeing the way children and locals interact with one another, and I have learned so much about conflict and problem-solving through the various activities within the programming.”

Salman Rasheed • Inspire Malaysia

“Many people already know the struggles that many families in Pakistan experience. But seeing things firsthand is something that we are not able to see all the time in Canada. Being a change-maker was one of my greatest experiences. Insha’Allah I will be able to continue to be a change-maker and help make a difference in our community moving forward.”
