Background

Morocco, located in North Africa, is a country rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. Despite its vibrant heritage and growing economy, Morocco faces significant social and economic challenges, particularly in rural areas. Many communities struggle with poverty, limited access to education, and inadequate healthcare infrastructure. Vulnerable populations, including children, youth, and women, are disproportionately affected by these issues, often lacking the resources and opportunities to thrive.

Islamic Relief Morocco

Islamic Relief has been actively working in Morocco to address these pressing challenges and improve the quality of life for vulnerable communities. The organization focuses on providing underprivileged children and youth with access to education through programs that supply school materials and offer training opportunities. In addition, efforts to enhance healthcare services in underserved areas, particularly for mothers and children, have been a central part of its mission.

Beyond immediate needs, Islamic Relief also supports community development by implementing sustainable projects such as livelihood programs, water sanitation initiatives, and psychosocial support for families in need. During times of crisis, including the aftermath of natural disasters, the organization has been at the forefront of emergency relief efforts. Following the devastating earthquake in Morocco in 2023, Islamic Relief was one of the first humanitarian organizations on the ground, providing immediate support to affected communities. This included food aid, temporary shelter, medical assistance, and long-term reconstruction efforts to help communities recover and rebuild. Through these comprehensive initiatives, Islamic Relief continues to foster long-term resilience and empower Moroccan communities to overcome socio-economic challenges.

Main activities

Volunteers will embark on a 10-day journey engaging with local communities in Morocco. Activities include:

  • Running educational workshops and recreational activities for children and youth
  • Providing psychosocial Support programs that foster emotional growth, resilience, and a sense of belonging for vulnerable children and youth
  • Packing and distributing food and hygiene kits to families in need

  • Participating in community service projects such as rehabilitation of schools and/or homes to improve the living conditions for affected communities
  • Visiting local Islamic Relief projects to learn about their impact and hear directly from rights-holders

Cultural Immersion Activities

Volunteers will have the opportunity to explore the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of Morocco. Activities will include visits to key landmarks, historic sites, and areas of cultural significance in both countries, offering participants an authentic glimpse into the traditions and heritage of Moroccans.

Benefits of field study

The Inspire program provides volunteers with an immersive and enriching experience, blending humanitarian service with cultural exploration. Volunteers will:

  • Enhance their leadership, communication, and team-building skills
  • Deepen their understanding of global humanitarian challenges
  • Develop intercultural awareness and empathy
  • Receive letters of reference upon request after completing the program

Participants are also encouraged to continue volunteering with Islamic Relief Canada to extend their humanitarian efforts beyond the trip.

Fundraising Process

These initiatives address socio-economic challenges, build resilience, and promote long-term self-reliance. Your support will make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need, where it is needed most.
